Block-built fences need especial attention, as they are very likely to collapse if there is a defect in their construction of them, e.g., if they do not contain the standard reinforcing bars, or if they have no support blocks.
It is also an idea to ask the town hall about the foundations of the house, the house itself and block-built walls.
Illustration 17.
Prevent furniture from toppling and falling.
Fix chests of drawers, sideboard , bookshelves, etc., to the pillar or wall with metal fittings, so that they do not fall over.
Do not place heavy or unstable articles high up, and secure articles on shelves with rope.
Make sure that the place where you normally sleep at night is safe, with nothing liable to fall on you.
